Duck Overboard
April 19 2026
Kara, Kevin and Cathy proudly display the Golden Duck they won buy saving a valuable flock of ducks that found themselves drifting in Sarasota Bay during our Spring Fling.
We joined with Sarasota Youth Sailing and had a combined fleet of 420s, Sunfish and American 18s for the Spring Fling Duck Overboard sail.
After race live music from Mike Horan on the pavilion and a scrumptious barbeque with burgers, brats and dogs rounded out a classic Sailing Squadron experience that celebrated springtime on our beautiful bay.

Sapphire Shores Flotilla
March 13 2026
We took a short, relaxed (not a race) sail up the eastern side of Sarasota Bay to Sapphire Shores, a protected cove just south of the Ringling Museum.
Once there our plan was to raft up and share a light picnic. The weather Gods were against us – there wasn’t enough wind in the cove so we sailed back to the squadron and enjoyed our picnic in the bar and pavilion.

Rich Roach – Sharpie Oystercatcher
When Rich isnโt in Sarasota sailing with the American 18 Fleet, you can sometimes find him sailing his New Haven Sharpie in and around the Connecticut River.
Rich built the Sharpie in his backyard. Originally a workhorse boat designed specifically for the shallow, muddy oyster beds of New Haven Harbor and Long Island Sound.
Ask Rich about it when you see him next!
